Mr doodle car12/25/2023 "Instead we started to collaborate more and better with artists to create a greater sense of what a building can be and what it can mean. The studio, which has been designed by architectural and interior design company Hollaway Studio, will have solar panels on the southerly face and air-source heat pumps - making it completely sustainable.įounder Guy Hollaway said: “Wouldn’t the world be a better place if we changed how we thought about buildings? Synergy, completeness, creativeness and love.” But more importantly – it’s the reflection of the two of us together. "And just like any painting, it has its own unique world within, where you are diving and exploring as you come in. The garden is a three dimensional painting and the studio is its focal point. "I wanted to give this amazing building the surroundings that will make it shine even more. And this garden is a unique collaboration between me and Sam. The inspiration also came from the meditative state of mind and calming flow through the body that being in a zen garden provides.Īt the centre of her designs are two meandering rivers, representing the River Thames and the River Kharkiv, which come together as one, in reference to the couple's relationship.Ī large pond area is situated right in front of the studio, as well as a maze, which when viewed from the roof terrace of the studio becomes clear that it is one of Sam's artworks.Īlena added: “Gardening is a form of art. Intricately designed by Alena, they are heavily influenced by the principles of feng shui, the traditional practice originating from ancient China that considers how human life connects and flows with the environment around it. The gardens surrounding the studio are of equal importance to the couple. In addition to the lower level, steel stairs will lead up to a mezzanine floor where Alena will work, and from there further stairs go up to the roof terrace from which the landscaped gardens and maze that she has designed can be viewed. "Holloway Studio has done such a brilliant job of designing everything, the CGIs look superb, I just can’t wait for it to happen now.” Preventing adultitis means keeping our minds open to possibility and adventure.Sam and Elena's landscaped Kent gardens (Image: Holloway Studio) Being adults means we get access to better tools and equipment, we get to decided how we spend our time, and we can make things happen. If you think that some how makes it less child-like, whimsical, and fun, I’d like to introduce a couple more rules that don’t exist Thou shalt not sneak a camero into your basement woodshop for the winter just because the garage isn’t heated(2 years running) and thou shalt not build a temporary paint booth in your garage the next summer with 2 x 4s and plastic sheeting. You know people who really like decorating cars usually use paint especially created for that purpose, because you get better, more durable results(not that Sharpies are the wrong choice). Balancing practicality and self expression is a fun challenge. You certainly could create a batmobile logo magnet for your car, or google eyes, or different car costumes for everyday of the week. Well, the practical concern of resale value is certainly an influence in decisions about personalizing cars and houses, you also should be able to creatively enjoy something so central in your life and heavily invested in. On the other hand, just because something is a rule that doesn’t exist doesn’t mean you have to break it.Ĭonsidering WHY you wouldn’t is the valuable part. But just because something is extremely uncommon and might be supremely difficult to do doesn’t mean it’s not a rule that doesn’t exist. Not many folks have the desire / courage to take a Sharpie or a can of spray paint to to their shiny new car. I’m sure it has a lot to do with how much money we spent on it. Even though I am a trained artist, the odds of me painting a Batman logo on the side is somewhere between slim and not a chance in hell.īut a part of me - a big part of me, actually - wishes those odds were much, much higher. We have a shiny black 2012 Ford Edge which we sometimes refer to as the Batmobile. If I had an old junky car, I might be tempted to do something similar.īut I’m gonna be honest here. Now, every once in a while you’ll see someone who has blinged out their beater jalopy with streaks of paint that make it look like an attendee at the original Woodstock. Even if the style is not your cup of tea, you gotta admit that the end result is pretty cool. I was reminded of that passage when I saw a story about this dude who let his artist wife draw all over his sports car with a Sharpie. He writes that if our wheelbarrow or trash can gets a big ding in it, we don’t give it another thought, but a small scratch in our new car causes us to freak out. In his book The Last Lecture, Randy Pausch talks about our attachment to material things.
